Project 2 Preliminary Proposal

I have made my decision who will be my client for Project 2. It's Borracchini's Bakery in Rainier Valley. My proposal is only rough. I have to think to explain specific about it. But, here's my rough proposal.

BACKGROUND
Borracchini’s Bakery is Seattle's historic Italian privately owned, family business bakery, tracing our roots back to our founding in 1922. Our quality and customer service is unmatched, proven by the longevity, loyalty and satisfaction of our customers over the years. It has small grocery market, deli, breads, pastries and cakes. It looks forward to serving you and making your special day as memorable as it can be. It loves to make customers the cake or cookies for their unique events such as birthday, wedding, or party.

CLIENT
Borracchini’s Bakery

TARGET AUDIENCE
Italian residences, 30 to 50 age adults, and kids

PROBLEMS
When the audiences want to buy breads or pastries. There will have brown sack to gather the donuts or cookies together. Also, the plastic bag is for the loaf of bread. It doesn’t have any Italian packaging to place cookies or donuts to be organizing inside. Cake does have blank pink packaging.

OPPORTIUNITY
Create to make bit old-traditional of Italian on the package. It can be tons of size of boxes since small to big. It may present some Ancient Roman’s sculptures and ivy plants on different boxes.

Thesis Response 4

"Alcohol Branding and Sins"

Does an alcohol is part of seven deadly sins? Yes, I agree with her. Because they are part of lust, gluttony, wrath, envy, pride, sloth, and greed, any alcohols such bottle, martini, and cocktail present sexy, pride, and ego. When you see any flyers, billboards or magazine ads, there have a feeling about the models pose with alcohol that look so sexy as lust. Also, the handsome guy stands in middle of line all bikini or swimsuits women that called pride and ego.

In other hand, they alcohol’s brandings have different purposes and shape of bottle. For example, the alcohol named 1792 Ridgemont Reserve, using the illustrated map of the where product coming from long ago. Also, skull bottle had no text on it, but the audience looked at it and had known what it is because the bottle is full of vodka.

"Make It Move Embracing Motion Graphics Design"

His thesis is half bored and interested because he explained about the old time design and future time about motion graphics as The Girl With Dragon Tattoo’s opening presents different motion from old motion from the past. Also, he explained good reasons how the graphic design has been changing through the time. The old designers focus on the design as typography and layout. Now, in the 21st century, it seems the graphic designers learn more specific about designer as motion graphics and animations.

He had good point about the design is change a bit in few years later. The designers may like to learn specific about graphic designer. His thesis applies to my design experience because the graphic design is not only learn how to do layout for brochure, annual report, and booklet, typography, and flyers. But, not only learn to do for website, it includes with ad commercial and information commercial. Because of new technologies coming, I need to learn more about graphic design and web design. The social media is increase highly and graphic designers have to learn more about web design.

Unit 3: How People Remember?

When you are on the phone and the person you are talking, the callers and talkers give you the number and their name. You do not have any paper and pen to scribble on it. You have to repeat their number and name to keep in your mind. Your brain is “short-term” memory because the brain be able to hold too much information same times. If you were in stressful with stuff, it would reduce the effectiveness of working memory.

Your brain has two parts: task includes remembering the words or numbers is in the left hemisphere. The tasks includes spatial relations such as finding on a map is in the right hemisphere.

There are ten billion neurons in the brain that store much information. The neurons in the brain fire many words, phrases, songs, phone numbers every time they repeat. The people tried to memorize them in their brain. They have to hear or see the information over and over to make stick on the brain.

You sometimes wished some something vivid happened stick on your brain. It can be annoying that you think about it some day because the memories are so vivid.

Rough Project Proposal for Two and Three

I've been thinking to design something different for two more projects. I like to make the packaging for shopping or products that need to redesign the packaging. I don't yet make decision which client to be fitting with my project 2.

Also, I have made decision to make graphic image sticker on the window for Baskin Robbins' shop. Since I saw the shop in different location that not really enough lure the people's attention to get the ice cream from the shop.

Unit 2: How People Read

One chapter explains about the shapes of words and letters in each sentence. People's eyes read more quickly and smoothly, but in shape jumps called saccade. Also, there's an example that uppercase letters may be harder to read than lowercase letters. But, authors can use these uppercase letters to show people shouting. Another chapter talks about the different look of the typefaces such as san serifs and serifs. There is a debate about how to read it smoothly, but there's no rule how to use them because of people’s reading style. There're many typefaces with different shapes. Some typefaces are too decorative making make it hard to read and understand. Another chapter explains about reading a single wide column and multiple columns. Many people prefer to read multiple columns when reading newspapers, magazines, and websites. These are easy to read smoothly and fast compared to the single wide column which takes time to read and possibly losing your place going to the next line.

Definition:
Saccade: The reader's eye move in quick, sharp jumps with short period of stillness in between.

Fixations: The moment of stillness

Thesis Response 2

“Cultural Fusion in Brand Strategy”

He explained the contact different from other countries with true cultural traditional and cultural traditional stealing. His thesis’s explanation really so clearly and make good points about two different cultural. He has lots of good point about copy the cultural.

I am actually learn something that I do not realized that some countries influenced and/or inspired by other countries. Some countries could be stole/borrowed the cultural from other countries to use for mobile, art, and fashion runway. When I read it, it made me wonder if the 21st century still stealing the traditional cultural and changing some of traditional to present bit different ways. That's why I noticed some branding for clothing, silverwares, hardwares or furnishing's shape are almost same. They just changed a little to be their own style.

Thesis Response 1

“Interacting With the Illusion Depth”
It’s very interested how he explained the five different senses; sight, touch, smell, feel, and taste, are used to interact with movie, video games technology, and mobile device. Five senses communicate to understand what is in the environment. For example, a painter crates a painting; the artwork depends on the artist’s tools. It showed how they used to create the art. Although, the paper with texts or images show how to communicate with people to be understand.

Imagine how the five senses are not exist in the world, they will not communicate or not immediately recognize. Five senses are very dependable in the world.

I had known how the five senses interact with device. But for more specific about five senses interact with technology. I depend with my sight and touch on the technology such as computer, movies, and television since I losing my hearing implant. I use my sight to see everything what I saw.

Unit 1: How People See

You think your brain understands what you see. It is not true because your brain is interpreting what you see. When people look at three-dimensional objects, it enters the retina as two-dimensional. But, then the two-dimensional image is sent to visual cortex in the brain to be recognized as a three-dimensional image. The fusiform face area is in the brain, not part of the visual cortex (FFA). We depend on to recognize faces faster than objects. People who have autism cannot use the FFA for face recognition. They see faces the same as objects. More men than women that have color-blindness since men only have one X-chromosome, women have two X-chromosome. A color blindness person may not recognize the difference in color or the color disappears.  Many people may recognize different colors that have certain meaning in different cultures. For example, the red means financial trouble, danger or stop. Green means money, environment, and “go”. Since different cultures have color purpose, you have to consider the color selection you use.

Geon (geometric icon) is to use basic shapes to identity objects.

FFA (fusiform face area) allows faces to bypass the brain’s usual interpretive channels (visual cortex) and help the people identify faces more quickly than objects.

Canonical perspective is usually drawn from a perspective slightly above looking down and nothing askew straight from left to right.

Affordance is a visual clue to the function of an object.
